FRA Frankfurt Airport
Layover in Frankfurt: what fits in your hours
Frankfurt Airport has its own S-Bahn station under Terminal 1, and the old town is about 20 minutes away, with trains around the clock. The city centre is small, so a few hours are enough for the Römer, the river and the skyline view.
How much time you really get
We count 20 minutes each way on the S-Bahn S8/S9 from the regional station under Terminal 1 to Hauptwache (Hauptbahnhof approx. 15 min), plus 20% for waiting, 45 minutes from landing to the exit, and 120 minutes back at the airport before departure. Bags checked through.

Good to know
- S-Bahn trains to the city leave from the regional station under Terminal 1; from Terminal 2 or 3 add the SkyLine people mover.
- Buy a ticket before boarding the S-Bahn (machines or the RMV app); inspectors fine passengers without one.
- Non-Schengen arrivals pass passport control to leave the airport.
