ORD Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Layover in Chicago: what fits in your hours

The CTA Blue Line runs from O’Hare to the Loop around the clock, so a Chicago layover is easy to reach and cheap; it takes about 45 minutes each way. The bigger time cost is the border: the US has no international transit area, so every international arrival clears US immigration and customs before connecting, whether or not you leave the airport.

How much time you really get

We count 45 minutes each way on the CTA Blue Line from O'Hare station (lower level, linked to T1-T3) to downtown/the Loop, plus 20% for waiting, 45 minutes from landing to the exit, and 120 minutes back at the airport before departure. Bags checked through.
